3.electric electrical

　　electric與electrical均作形容詞用，但前者用來指“用電來驅(qū)動的”，“由電產(chǎn)生的”，后者為“與電有關(guān)的”。另外electric還可以表示“令人震驚的”。例如：

　　an electric torch(generator)電筒(發(fā)電機)

　　an electrical engineer電機工程師

　　典型考題：His speech had an

　　effect on the crowd;they all cheered him.

　　A.electric B.electrical C.electronic D.elastic

　　答案為A。句意：他的演說震撼人心，整個人群都向他歡呼。 electronic電子的;elastic有彈性的。

　　4.eminent imminent

　　eminent和imminent都是形容詞，詞形相似，但詞義不同。eminent指“著名的”，“卓越的”，“杰出的”; imminent指“即將發(fā)生的”，“迫在眉睫的”。例如：

　　Washington was eminent both as a general and as president.華盛頓作為一位將軍和總統(tǒng)，都是出類拔萃的。

　　The black clouds and the lightning show that a storm is imminent.烏云和閃電表明暴風(fēng)雨即將來臨。

　　典型考題：As we know，Churchill was one of the world's most statesmen.

　　A.eminent B.imminent C.illicit D.explicable

　　答案為A。句意：眾所周知，邱吉爾是世界上最卓越的政治家之一。A與B較易混淆，前者意為“著名的”;后者意為“逼近的”，“即將發(fā)生的”。illicit違法的;explicable可解釋的，可說明的。

　　5.emotional emotive

　　emotional與emotive并不同義，卻常被混淆。emotional表示“充滿感情的”，“易動感情的”，主語多為人;

　　emotive表示“使人激動的”，“令人感動的”之意，主語多為物。如：

　　an emotional person 易動感情的人

　　an emotive speech 令人感動的演講

　　典型考題：Women are often said to be more than men.

　　A.emotions B.motions C.emotional D.emotive

　　答案為C。句意：常常說女人比男人易動感情。emotions是人類精神情感的總稱，包括喜、怒、哀、樂等情緒;motions運動，動作。
