It is said that Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet of the Warring States Period, drowned himself in the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. People used dragon boats to chase away fish so that his body would not be eaten. Later, dragon boat racing has evolved into a way in honor of Qu Yuan during the Dragon Boat Festival. In the race, the sailors made joint efforts to reach the finish line, reflecting the collectivism spirit of the Chinese people.
