第六天：抓住基礎(chǔ) 詞句為先---核心詞組篇之一

　　在復(fù)習(xí)考研英語的時(shí)候，許多同學(xué)只注意記單詞，很少花時(shí)間熟悉詞組。這是復(fù)習(xí)的一個(gè)誤區(qū)，也是學(xué)習(xí)的一個(gè)誤區(qū)。后果之一是句子里的詞都認(rèn)識，但是無法理解其意思，或者自以為明白了，其實(shí)理解的意思是錯(cuò)的。套用英語里的一句話，叫做“不熟悉詞組所造成的危害再怎么說也不為過”。下面以2005年考研英語閱讀部分第一篇文章首段為例：

　　Everybody loves a fat pay rise. Yet pleasure at your own can vanish if you learn that a colleague has been given a bigger one. Indeed, if he has a reputation for slacking, you might even be outraged. Such behavior is regarded as “all too human”, with the underlying assumption that other animals would not be capable of this finely developed sense of grievance. But a study by Sarah Brosnan and Frans de Waal of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, which has just been published in Nature, suggests that it is all too monkey, as well.

　　文中的黑體（系本文作者所加）代表的是同一個(gè)詞組：all too（非常，太）。如果不認(rèn)識這個(gè)詞組，對原文的理解就會打折扣，而對于文章后面的問題（正確答案為[B]）也難以駕馭：

The statement “it is all too monkey” (Last line, Paragraph 1) implies that
[A] monkeys are also outraged by slack rivals.
[B] resenting unfairness is also monkeys’ nature.
[C] monkeys, like humans, tend to be jealous of each other.
[D] no animals other than monkeys can develop such emotions.

　　無獨(dú)有偶，這一年閱讀部分第四篇文章的第一題的正確答案也包含all too這個(gè)詞組。

According to McWhorter, the decline of formal English
[A] is inevitable in radical education reforms.
[B] is but all too natural in language development.
[C] has caused the controversy over the counter-culture.
[D] brought about changes in public attitudes in the 1960s.

　　由上可知，熟悉詞組的意義重大。小至考試，大至學(xué)習(xí)，成毀有時(shí)系于小小的詞組。為何如此？理由是詞組為語言中已結(jié)晶的一部分，很難由其中的單詞判斷其準(zhǔn)確意思。鑒于此，必須下大功夫熟悉這兩天列出的核心詞組。注意：這些詞組是按年總結(jié)的，不按字母順序。

　　今天的結(jié)束語是美國英語中的一個(gè)表達(dá)法：six of one and half a dozen of the other（半斤八兩——字面意思是“一個(gè)六個(gè)，另一個(gè)半打”）。
