Dear son,
The day that you see me old and I am already not in good health, have patience and try to understand me.
If I get dirty when eating, if I can not dress, have patience and remember the hours I 26 teaching it to you. If, when I speak to you, I repeatthe same things thousand and one times, do not interrupt me, listen to me. When you were small, I had to read to you thousand and one times the same story 27 you got to sleep. When I do not want to have a 28 , neither shame me nor scold me. Remember when I had to chase you with thousand excuses I 29 , in order that you wanted to bathe. When you see my knowing little about new technologies, give me the necessary time and do not look at me with your mocking (嘲弄) smile. I taught you 30 to do so many things: to eat good, to dress well, to confront life….When at some moment I lose the memory or the 31 of conversation, let me have the necessary time to remember, and if I can not do it, do not become nervous, as the most important thing is not our conversation but surely to be with you and to have you listening to me.
If ever I do not want to eat, do not force me. I know well 32 I need to and when not. When my 33 legs do not allow me to walk, give me your 34 , the same way I did when you gave your first 35 . And when someday I say to you that I do not want to 36 any more — that I want to rest forever, do not get angry. Someday you will understand.
Try to understand that my age is not lived but survived. Some day you will discover that, despite my mistakes, I always wanted the 37 thing for you and that I tried to prepare the way for you. You must not feel sad, angry or impotent (無(wú)奈) for seeing me 38 you. You must be next to me, try to understand me and to help me as I did it when you 39 living. Help me to walk, help me to end my way with love and 40 . I will pay you by a smile and by the immense love I have had always for you.
I love you, Son.

Yesterday I went to the nursing home to visit my grandma. She just got out of the hospital recently where she had some serious operations. I wanted to surprise her after work, so I stopped by for a quick visit.
When I got there, she was happy to see me. We hugged, kissed and exchanged greetings. Then I heard a woman crying. It was my grandma’s roommate. The curtain was drawn so I could not see her. She started calling out a name that wasn’t mine but she was certainly talking to me, begging me to go to her side of the room.
I ignored her at first and continued visiting with my grandma. Then she started begging and saying, “Please, come to see me!” So I went to see her.
When I drew the curtain back, she looked so old but flashed me the biggest smile! She opened her arms wide for me to hug her so I bent low and gave her a hug. I sat on her bed and talked with her for a few minutes. She kept calling me by the other name but I did not correct her. She told me stories as if I had been there when they happened.
Finally I went back to visit with my grandma. Then the woman started crying again, saying, “Please, come back.” She finally slept.
I stopped by the nurse’s station and the nurse told me that the lady suffers from Alzheimer’s. I mentioned the name she had called me. The nurse told me it was the lady’s daughter’s name. Then I understood why she wanted me to go to visit her.
We will all get old some day. Some of us will have broken minds like the lady and some of us will have broken bodies like my grandma. As I was leaving I promised I would go back and visit the lady, even after my grandma moves back to her home.

When US student Olivia Priedeman, 17, woke up one morning, she thought she had had a dream about making plans with a friend.
But it wasn’t a dream. Her phone showed that during the night, Priedeman had read a text message from her friend. She did it while she was fast asleep.
Reading and sending text messages while asleep—called “sleep texting”—is an unusual sleep behaviour, similar to sleepwalking. It’s also a growing concern(關(guān)心的事) among doctors: young people can’t live without their cell phones.
One in three teenagers sends more than 100 text messages a day, according to the Pew Internet & American Life Project. And at least four out of five teenagers said they sleep with their phone on or near their bed.
Elizabeth Dowdell, a professor at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, has studied sleeping texting. She said that having a phone nearby all night is a big part of the problem.
Andrew Stiehm, a sleep medicine expert with Allina Health in Minnesota, agrees. It’s possible for the part of the brain that controls motor skills (動(dòng)作技能) to wake up, while the part of the brain that controls memory and judgment(判斷) may be still asleep. That’s why some people can perform basic movements ---such as walking, talking, texting or even driving—while they’re sleeping. Some of Dowdell’s students said that they’re disturbed by their nighttime texting behavior. But because sleep texting is unconscious, it’s a difficult habit to break. Dowdell said she knows of some students who wear socks on their hands to keep themselves from texting.
Marjorie Hogan, a doctor at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, suggests keeping all electronic devices outside the bedroom at certain times.
51. What happened to Olivia Priedeman?
A. She sleepwalked to a friend’s house.
B. She dreamed of making plans with a friend.
C. She phoned one of her friends during the night.
D. She read a text message from her friend while asleep.
52. Which part the brain controls keeps awake while asleep?
A. judgment B. language C. memory D. motor skills
53. What does the underlined word “unconscious” mean?
A. 無(wú)法 B. 無(wú)意識(shí)的 C. 無(wú)反應(yīng)的 D. 無(wú)規(guī)律的
54. What does doctor Hogan suggest people who sleep text do?
A. Stop text during the daytime.
B. Take some medicine to control the behaviour.
C. Keep their phones out of their bedrooms while they sleep.
D. Wear socks on their hands to stop themselves from texting.
55. We can learn from the passage that ________.
A. It’s easy to give up a sleep texting habit.
B. One in three teenagers has a sleep texting habit.
C. Sleep texting can reduce the quality of one’s sleep.
D. Sleep texting does more harm to one’s health than sleepwalking.

Here are some pieces of advice for you. First, we can do some sports to make us healthy. Second, it’s useful for us to do some reading or listen to some music after school. Last but not least, we can spend some time talking with our teachers, families or friends. I think they will bring us happiness.
I hope my advice will give you some help, and you can enjoy your school life better.

During the drive, Anna noticed that many people had lemon and other fruit trees in their yards, but much of the fruit was falling to the ground and being wasted. Seeing this, Anna remembered the days when she and her sister were hungry and had little food to eat. So she decided to do something. She knocked on her neighbors’doors and asked if she could pick the fruit and give it to hungry people. Her neighbors thought it was a good idea.
Since then, Anna has spent over forty hours each week working on the project. She has given away 500 tons of food worth $600.000 to local organizations. She has been called the “Lemon Lady”.
