　　1.munity of shared interests.

　　2. Humanity /hjuːˈmænɪtɪ/

　　基本意思是人類，也表示“仁慈”、“博愛”。本身不是多么有難度的詞，主要是很多中文材料愛用“人類”，“全人類”這種表述，所以它的用法要掌握。此外，這個詞的復數(shù)形式The humanities 還表示人文學科。

　　他們面臨犯有反人類罪的指控。

　　They face charges of committing crimes against humanity.

　　她的演講表現(xiàn)出高度的成熟和博愛。

　　Her speech showed great maturity and humanity.

　　主修人文學科的學生數(shù)量已經(jīng)下降了近一半。

　　The number of students majoring in the humanities has declined by about half.

　　3. That being said

　　本身是承上啟下的過渡，有時候引導一種矛盾、對立的關(guān)系，常用來翻譯 “但是”、“也”、“同時”、“另一方面”。在句子中刪掉往往也不太影響句意，所以有時候，也可以適當“強行使用”，凸顯邏輯關(guān)系，也適當給譯文加分。

　　我們也注意到，國際上有的人宣稱，中國發(fā)展起來后會走“國強必霸”的老路。

　　基本的意思有“安全的”、“牢固的”，時政漢譯英時常用它的“爭取到”的意思，表示某種行為產(chǎn)生的結(jié)果，常用來翻譯 “實現(xiàn)”等意義，替換 obtain/achieve/maitain。

　　聯(lián)邦政府的領(lǐng)導人們繼續(xù)他們爭取�；鸬呐�力。

　　Federal leaders continued their efforts to secure a ceasefire.

　　以公平原則固本強基，以合作手段驅(qū)動發(fā)展。

　　The principle of fairness secures a strong foundation, a cooperative approach generates momentum for development

　　一年來，我國經(jīng)濟社會發(fā)展總體平穩(wěn)，穩(wěn)中有進。

　　During the past year, China has, overall, achieved a stable performance while at the same time securing progress in its economic and social development.

　　以這樣的速度保持較長時期發(fā)展，實現(xiàn)現(xiàn)代化的物質(zhì)基礎(chǔ)就會更加雄厚。

　　If China’s economy can grow at this rate for a relatively long time, we will secure a more solid material foundation for modernization.
